Our vineyards in Hallgarten have been cultivated at two of the best Riesling locations in Rheingau since 1875. Hallgarten Schönhell - the name comes from old German and literally means "wonderful finish". This location faces south and has a deep soil layer with a high clay content. The old, deeply rooted vines yield rich Riesling wines with a wonderfully fruity bouquet. Our red Burgundy wines come from this location. By containing and selecting the amount of grapes we harvest, we are rewarded with full-bodied, velvet Burgundy wines.
Hallgartener Hendelberg (Hindelberg)
The Cistercians, who were deeply devoted to the Virgin Mary, gave the Hallgarten Jungfer location its name. It was subsequently a natural step to call this vineyard "Jungfer" [virgin] in honour of the Holy Virgin Mary. The original Jungfer area lies on a south-facing incline to the east of Hallgarten, in a cone-shaped hollow. Substantial, harmonious and long-lasting Riesling wines with a wide variety of aromas grow in the deep, sandstone-infused deposits of brown earth of this sunny, sheltered slope.
